Last night, Oct. 8-9 (10:18 pm - 2:45 am) ✨ A full-on chase around the clouds, always moving, always looking for the next clear window, the next patch of stars, the next burst of magnetic light.

With amazing travellers from Ontario and Australia.

Fast, playful, unpredictable, full of emotion, and with that simple obsession at the centre of it all: chasing beauty. ✨

✨ AURORA ALERT ✨

We have a Coronal Mass Ejection heading our way, and it could hit Earth’s magnetic field within the next several hours, most likely sometime tonight into tomorrow.

That means we could have decent chances for strong aurora activity tonight, tomorrow night, and possibly over the following nights too, if the other pieces cooperate, especially the weather.

I’m hitting the road to chase the lights and still have 3 seats available tonight and 2 seats available tomorrow night, Friday.

If you want to join, please book through my website. ✨

Last night, Oct. 6-7. ✨ Looking up & getting lost in the magnetic skies with an absolutely lovely crew from Texas who even ended up singing Nick Cave in the vehicle along the way. Hard to beat that combination. ✨

Oct 5, 2026. ✨ Every night, around the same time, I stop at the same gas station in Yellowknife, grab a Red Bull and head out. The staff know me by now, and there’s usually some comment about the aurora, the weather or the tourists.

Last night, with heavy rain falling over Yellowknife, the guy behind the counter looked amused.

“With weather like this?”

I shrugged. It was probably going to be a long night.

Thirty minutes later I was on the road with a Mexican couple, a woman from Calgary and another from Vancouver Island. For almost two hours, the windshield wipers kept up this hypnotic dance. Foxes ran along the highway. Not a single star.

I kept driving, following a messy combination of forecasts, satellite images and weather models, fully aware that all these clever tools have their limits when Mother Nature decides to improvise.

Every so often I stopped and probed the sky with a long exposure. Same answer every time: thick clouds. A ceiling made of concrete.

Almost four hours later, nearly 200 km from Yellowknife, nothing had improved. I was silently insulting the apps, the models, the satellites, the robots, the machines, basically the entire modern world.

Then, just before 2 a.m., I looked left.
A glow. Not even a proper glow. More like the suggestion of one, low on the western horizon.

I stopped the vehicle. Turned off the headlights. Took a breath. Fuck. I can smell aurora over there.

I grabbed the camera with the 16mm and fired a shot. Bam. A tiny strip of open sky. Maybe 30 km away. And naturally, no road went straight towards it.

Bells started ringing in my head. Hope cracked open inside the vehicle.

About twenty minutes later, we were finally standing under clear sky.

The Moon was still trapped behind the clouds to the east, so above us we had green aurora, purple structures and the Milky Way hanging there in full view, huge and almost unreal, in a genuinely dark sky with no light pollution.

Almost 200 km from Yellowknife, after hours of rain, fog, clouds and stubborn driving.

That place where, every now and then, miracles actually happen. ✨

Blooming like a tought ✨

Blooming like a tought ✨

Yellowknife 🇨🇦 last night, Oct. 2–3. ✨

A beautifully chaotic night: about 220 km on the road, slaloming around altocumulus clouds drifting in from the northwest and chasing whatever clear sky we could find. We got lucky and managed to stay under clear skies for most of the night simply because we kept moving.

Around 10 p.m., about an hour from Yellowknife, the first show kicked off: green, elastic-whip aurora snapping across the sky and opening into huge flower-like shapes that seemed to swallow us.

Between midnight and 2 a.m., the whole mood changed into this almost religious purple rain.

Then, between 2 and 3 a.m., the coronas started exploding.

All night, the sky looked like a cathedral painted in watercolour.

Worth every kilometre. Take the road. Find the real things. ✨

✨ NEW: AURORA PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS ✨

I’ve been asked quite a few times how I photograph the Northern Lights, how I edit my photos, and how people can improve their own images when they come out too dark, too green or too noisy.

So I decided to create proper two workshops around that: one takes you outside with me to shoot the aurora, and the other sits us down in front of Lightroom to edit the results.

Two options:

💫 1 - Private Aurora Photography Workshop 💫

A full night outside, chasing the lights together while I help you with settings, focus, exposure, composition and all the practical stuff. You can bring a professional camera or simply use your smartphone. Beginners are welcome, experienced photographers too.
If you don’t have the right equipment, you can also rent some of my cameras, wide-angle lenses and tripods.

💫 2 - Aurora Photo Editing & Timelapse Workshop 💫

A daytime session in Lightroom using your own photos, where we work on colour, exposure, noise, masks and all the little things that can completely change an aurora image. Smartphone photos are welcome too.

My goal is simple: I want you to go home with photos you made yourself and that you’re actually proud of. 👌

Details, prices and booking info : link in bio.
